Taipei, Taiwan: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan yesterday accused prosecutors in the United States of using “flawed” procedures in using the words of three officials at Taiwan's representative office in Kansas as evidence to bring charges against Representative Jacqueline Liu (click here and here to view).
The ministry said the three staffs in the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Kansas City who met with the FBI agents were listed as witness without consent. Thus the FBI had violated due process.
The next hearing for Liu's case will not be held until sometime next week after the Thanksgiving holiday. Because the judge did not accept Liu's plea bargain last Friday, the diplomat was remanded in custody.
